Kathy Elias, DMD, PhD, M.S.
Dr. Elias is an orthodontic specialist who remembers wanting to be a dentist long before she really understood what went into a dental career! During her teenage years, she learned how valuable a beautiful smile was and how it could effect one’s self-esteem, self-confidence, and overall quality of life.
Dr. Elias’ academic career and training is diverse. She completed an undergraduate and graduate degree in Materials Science & Engineering at The Ohio State University. Motivated by an interest in research and dentistry, she went on to earn a Doctor of Dental Medicine and a Ph.D in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Connecticut. Her training gives her a unique understanding of the materials, mechanics, and bone biology invaluable to orthodontic tooth movement.
After dental school, Dr. Elias completed her postgraduate training and earned a M.S. and Certificate in Orthodontics from The Ohio State University. The training she received was comprehensive and involved collaborate work with the oral surgeons to treat orthognathic surgical cases, craniofacial teams to treat patients with cleft palate, and restorative dental specialists to give people the smile of their dreams. After her formal training, she worked in private practice treating children, teenagers, and adults and also served as a part-time faculty at the UT Health School of Dentistry. Dr. Elias relocated to Michigan in 2018 and is privileged to offer orthodontic care to the Macomb community. In practice, she utilizes many techniques and appliances including expanders, mini-implants, traditional braces, esthetic ceramic braces, lingual braces, among others.
She is active within the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, and local dental organizations.
